Hwanggumpyong Island : ウィキペディア英語版 | Hwanggumpyong Island Hwanggumpyong Island ((朝鮮語:황금평), (中国語:黃金坪)) is an island on the Yalu River, which forms a section of the land border between North Korea and China. It now belongs to North Korea, due to ethnic Koreans living on the island at the time of the 1962 border treaty. The island is an exclave on the otherwise Chinese side of the river. In June 2011, an agreement with China was made to establish a joint free trade area on Hwanggumpyong and Wihwa Islands, and the China border area near Dandong. By 2013 the site had been prepared, and free trade area of over may be ready for operation in about two years. ==References==
